Tony Stewart is a man's man. He's highly aggressive, with
a sly, charming smile and a temper that lends him a bad-boy image. If he wasn't
racing, he could easily double as a scruffy lumberjack in the Alaskan wilderness.

On the track, he's thrilling to watch, although his driving can be undermined by the
very aggressiveness that gives him a winning edge. In 2002, Stewart banged his
way to the Cup championship. Along the way, he punched a photographer and got
in numerous on-track scuffles that didn't exactly endear him to fellow drivers or
NASCAR officials. Last season, he underwent a personality makeover following
anger management and stress counseling. It didn't pay off on the track, and he
ended the season in 7th place. Good, but not up to Stewart's standards.

Stewart's racing roots can be traced back to 1993, when he took home the
championship trophy for the International Karting Federation. He went on to take
the Indy racing world by storm, taking home rookie of the year honors, and by '97,
his first Indy championship. Lucky for us NASCAR ladies, he was soon racing full
time in NASCAR's Winston Cup series, taking home rookie of the year honors
once again in '98.

This year, Smoke is back. And so are the complaints about his rough-and-tumble
racing style. But after an off year, look for Stewart to reemerge as a
championship threat. His hunger is back, and the Home Depot #20 is poised for a
return to the podium.
